Provimi improves piglet survivability rates

At Provimi’s brand launch event, Swine Species Group Manager North West Europe Pieter Wolleswinkel presented Provimi’s Piglet Rescue System.

In the current swine production industry piglet mortality is still at a high level. More piglets are born per litter and especially in large litters there are more weak piglets with low birth weight and low energy reserves. This leads to malnutrition of those piglets, with lower survivability rates.

To tackle this problem Provimi has developed the Rescue System: Rescue Milk fed in the Rescue Deck. This Rescue Milk can be fed to 3-4 days old piglets. It gives consistent superior results due to highly digestible ingredients and a unique acidification to ensure product stability.

The Rescue Deck is a box in which a microclimate is created for the smallest piglets. Via a patented drinker system the Rescue Milk is fed ad libitum to the piglets. At this moment approximately 5000 Decks are installed in 18 countries throughout North America and the EU.

Research has proved that this Rescue Milk in combination with high quality creep feed can rear piglets up to weaning. Mortality rates go down 2-4.5% and uniformity of the litters at weaning increases. 624,000 piglets are raised according to the Rescue System annually and 60% of these piglets would not have survived at the sow.
